Judging & Competition Trays
Judging began early Saturday morning and ran smoothly under the leadership of Linda Hickey. By 1:30 pm, all trays were hung and ready for viewing. Highlights included:
- A junior collector entering trays in both junior awards
- Four clubs participating in the Club Award, “Things That Fly Through the Air.”
- Five entries in the Studio Button Award — all exceptional
- Four entries for the creative award judged by attendees
Showroom
The showroom stayed busy throughout the day. Collectors enjoyed browsing antique, vintage, studio, and handmade buttons from both returning and new dealers.
Zwirnknopf Workshop
Saturday afternoon’s Zwirnknopf workshop, taught by Karen, was a full session with 11 participants. Everyone left with a handmade button and a sense of appreciation for what goes into making these types of buttons.
Evening Program
Saturday evening brought everyone together again for the always‑anticipated program. This year’s entertainment, “Doctor, Doctor,” was created by NBS President Vicki Condi‑MacTavish, our guest speaker for the night. Vicki recruited Cecile Sutter as the “radio,” rewriting and performing button‑themed versions of several well‑known songs. She also enlisted Art Baur to play the doctor in a skit where Vicki, suffering from a humorous “button addiction,” sought his help for a cure. Their playful back‑and‑forth kept the room chuckling from start to finish.
After the skit, Vicki shared a slideshow created from materials submitted in advance. Members were invited to send a photo of themselves along with two button images — one tied to the theme, “Love Is in the Air,” and one showing a favorite button with a brief explanation. Each segment began with the member’s photo — sometimes from childhood, prompting plenty of guessing — before revealing their theme button and then their favorite button. It was a thoughtful and enjoyable way to close out the evening.
